First Issue Specimen Overprints

In the 1917 - 1921 Multi Crown CA issue, only the 50c to $10 values were overprinted with "Specimen". The overprint on the 50c (SC 11), however, was a 2 x 12 ½ mm overprint (Samuel GB 26), whereas the $1 to $10 values were overprinted with a 1 ½ x 10 mm overprint (Samuel type GB 23). The reason for this remains a mystery.
