The IanThom Foundation

ThomThe IanThom Foundation has now got its own website at www.IanThom.org. The information on these pages is no longer being updated.

The IanThom Foundation is a 501(c)3 charity that Thom and I set up as part of our estate planning to ensure that, in the event of either of our deaths, our tradition of charitable giving to Gay and Lesbian related, AIDS related and arts related charities could continue. All donations to the foundation are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law and the foundation incurs no expenses and pays no fees to ensure that all donations can be pooled, invested and given to worthy, qualified 501(c)3 charities.

Thom Martin passed away on November 13th, 2000 and the foundation was formalized at that time so that donations could be made in his memory. The Board of Trustees are Ian C. Gibson-Smith, Julia Lam, Laura Olsen, Susan Ludwig, Melinda Daniels and Lori Kluber. In the time since his passing we, and our friends, have raised over $500,000.00 in donations and have already donated over $400,000 to charities listed on the Awards page. In addition to donations to the large, well known (and obviously wonderful!) charities, we also make grants to smaller, community based groups. On the donations page is a listing of these charities. Please check the links to their websites and consider supporting them or at least, letting your friends know about them. In addition, there are a number of charities which, although worthy, do not fall under the mission of the IanThom Foundation. These charities are supported by me personally and they are listed under the Nibbly Bits section of this website.

We intend to hold one fundraising event each year which will both raise funds for the foundation and honor his memory and we hope that the foundation will continue to grow and help smaller organizations where support is so desperately needed.
